A virus breaks out and, for reasons that are honestly pretty rude, it starts taking out the world’s richest and most influential people first. Great timing, because Laura is on the verge of getting everything she’s wanted to look good: she’s a senior executive at a rising streaming platform, lands a surprising promotion, gains access to the kind of circles where “class” is a paid feature, and can finally afford top schools for her daughter Anna. For a moment, it’s just success. Then the world starts cracking.
Markets tank, entire business empires wobble, and plain old societal mess spreads everywhere. While everyone with money tries to outrun the problem out of the cities, Laura, her daughter, her husband, and her mother head for Europe on a high-risk route. The question is not whether they’ll make it. It’s whether the distance they’re chasing can beat something that doesn’t care about status. Rich Flu is dark, sharp, and a little too believable.

Reiche sterben. Nicht im übertragenen Sinn, sondern ziemlich wörtlich: Ein neues Virus schnappt sich die Mächtigen der Welt. Und natürlich trifft es Laura ausgerechnet dann, wenn ihr Leben endlich glattläuft. Die Managerin einer aufstrebenden Streaming-Plattform bekommt eine Beförderung, rutscht in die Eliteschiene, schickt ihre Tochter Anna auf Top-Schulen und muss sich keine Existenzängste mehr einreden. Schön. Dann wackeln Wirtschaftsimperien, der Aktienmarkt geht baden und Chaos macht sich breit.
Wenn die Metropolen für die Reichen zur Todeszone werden, startet die Flucht. Laura zieht mit Tochter, Mann und ihrer Mutter los über eine Route, die so riskant ist, dass man sich fragt, ob “Sicherheit” hier noch ein Wort ist. Spoiler: Das Virus hält offenbar auch Ferientage für eine schlechte Idee. Rich Flu ist bitter, schnell und unangenehm nah an der Gegenwart.
